Hey Y'all.......Glad to be here!
So I picked up Winston last Saturday. It all started well and went off without a hitch except my stupidity of forgetting the halter that would fit him. So, we loaded him without. Got to the barn, backed the trailer in, gave him the first stall in and shut the doors to the barn. He walked right in the stall..........then it got fun!
Trying to get the halter on in a stall was a chore, after being bit (on the nipple) and on the side....we finally got it. I got him haltered and the last few days I have sacked him out. He is good everywhere except right on the front of his face, little touchy...but then so am I when people stick their finger in my face.
The last couple of days have been good. We have him leading fine (still a little touchy when things move around him). One thing I have learned, I have to be the alpha at all times. It is an interesting balance between being very calm and patient and being strong and pushing off when he gets in my space. I have been able to lay him down once and starting to try and get him to think about things other than how to beat the poop out of me......so we are ready to go to work!
One thing, I don't know the name of the movie but the book was 90 Days With a Horse about prisoners in Colorado training mustangs. We watched it the other night. It was very interesting and showed a lot about the horses and the men. If you can find the name of the movie by the book, I would try and watch it.
Y'all let me know how you are doing. I write and play some music and I am going to try and write a song about the mustang. If you get a chance, say hi on my myspace or facebook www.myspace.com/colephillipsmusic or www.facebook.com/colephillipsmusic
Blessings,
Cole
