I am still recovering from an injury, which has hendered me some, but Memphis is still progressing. He gets shod on Monday and not a moment too soon as I'm anxious to get him out and about. He's just too tender outside of the pen to do much without shoes.

One of my friends that participated in the EMM last year brought over some trail obstacles for us to play with. I love how brave the Mustangs are. Memphis digs this bridge, he even looks for it when I turn him out to graze.

I had his wolf teeth pulled and teeth floated 2 weeks ago, and as I was unable to ride anyway, he got the week off following. It's a good thing, the roots of his wolf teeth were an inch or more long, so he was sore for a while. My first day back on him he was good, but the next day, he was aggitated. I went back to the hackamore on him and was immediately back to his good ol' self. One of our biggest challenges has been lightness though. He's so big and heavy, and tends to want to be lazy, that keeping his feet forward and light, as well as his face and his ribcage is a constant challenge. In the hackamore, he is good for a couple of days, but then starts to get heavy again, so we've been alternating back and forth until his mouth feels better.

I have been pushing the socialization with him too because every new person is still a new person to him. He is absolutely completely gentle with me, but he will snort at a stranger until they get their hands on him. He'll come around. He has regular visitors. :)

I'm sharing a picture of him in the hackamore, but I like this picture because I think his neck has shaped up so well so far! He was SO cresty when he got here that when he'd walk, his neck would sway from side to side. He's still a big heavy boy, but it's fun to see him getting fit.

I'm in the west San Antonio area and anxious to haul this horse as much as I can before the EMM. Anyone want to meet up somewhere? Horse show? Trail ride? Anything? mcmillanshowhorses@yahoo.com
