What a difference a week makes
Doesn't seem that Patriot is the same horse as a week ago. He is extremely smart and is learning very quickly. Kirstin has him lunging, picking up hooves, pivoting on front and hind quarters and leading. Hopefully, things will continue at the pace that they are going. School starts in a few weeks, so training will go down to just once a day at that point.

Hi Guys
Presley and I rode together to pick up our mustangs. It was a great trip and, though we didnt get the genders we were hoping for, we have already had a great get off with our 'stangs. I decided to name mine Caja, pronounced car-sha. It's Cornish for Daisy. She's done so good already. The first day I had her back at my North Carolina home, I had the lead line on her. In the short of just one week I have started leading her, rubbing her down with plastic bags, bathing, fly spraying, and doing so much more with her. She is very friendly and walks up to just about anyone.Ill have some pictures and videos up soon of her. She really is beautiful! :)

Tres & Dale Lively - Supreme EMM 2010 Day 10
The Day 10 lesson was almost 2 hrs. long. The video is excerpts from the first day under saddle. Notice, Tres makes exactly 5.5 really good rounds before the tantrum begins... BTW, Dad looks pretty darn good too doesn't he, especially considering he will be 72 on Sept 21... Love you, Dad!

Tres and Dale Lively- Supreme EMM Day 5
Day 5, May 12, 2010.... Dad and Tres are working together.... Dad had his radio on, as usual, when he is video recording. Of course he can't hear it in the round pen. Looks like the workout was choreographed to the song "Friends"... Amazing what you notice when you are reviewing the videos.
I made a little video of Tres' first little tantrum..... Dad and I were wondering if we were gonna spend the night at the round pen.... This was on Day 3... So many firsts. First out of the stall, in the round pen, use of a haltar, and NOT IN CONTROL.... He was not a happy camper....

Hi! I'm Tracie, I am a trainer in the TN competition and this is my first time to train a Mustang. My daughter Madeline, friend Missy and I made the 6 hour trip to Piney Woods on Friday to pick up our Mustang. The guys at the holding facility were terrific and had us loaded in no time. I was very surprised and a bit concerned at how small and narrow my mustang is but they assured me he will fill out in no time.......I sure hope so. I am posting a picture of him at the holding facility and then that night when we got him home and unloaded. We haven't picked out a name for him yet but suggestions are welcome!!!!

Mustang Makeover
this is our first year of training a mustang. Wow it is great. Mr. Big was a lot more wild then the other one we saw, but he won our hearts. He is training quickly and really settled down fast. I hope we can give him a new chance at life, or bring him home since my mustang got hurt and I no longer have her. we have vids on u tube

Only 3 days after arriving "Gunner" was able to be turned out into the big pasture and I introduced him to a 2yr old filly that was also wild and untouched just 2 weeks prior. Miss Blaze and gunner are very happy together now. hehehe even though Miss Blaze was a lil bit of a witch to start with.
Hello, I am Mark Updike and "Gunner" is the name of my Mustang for this years make over in Tennessee. I have never competed in a competition like this and look foreward to it, but mostly I like helping horses become well mannered and a pleasure to ride. In doing this the horses quality of life go up and I hope they go on to long and happy lives. I have been doing this very thing for my clients for over 6 years as my full time job. So it only made sense for me to help out with a mustang this year.
Good luck to all the horses and trainers! I will see you all in October :)
Here we go again. Year number 3 for Kirstin and the youth makeover. We made the long haul to Piney Woods, Mississippi this past weekend to pick up her new yearling. We were extremely lucky, Kirstin's mustang Patriot appears to be a relatively calm horse. He didn't pitch a fit in the chute when the handlers put his halter on, he calmly walked out of the chute straight into the trailer. Remained calm the entire trip home, even ate and drank at every stop we made. Patriot did manage to rub his halter off the very next day, but Kirstin was able to rehalter him that evening after working with him for a little while. www.kirstinsmustangmakeover.blogspot.com www.kkmustangs.blogspot.com

Wellington Parade 7-4-2010
The cattle drive went so well, I thought we should ride in the Wellington Parade. It was a little country town parade so there were old tractors, loud cars, fire trucks, American Flags, whistles, little kids running all over the place and rail road tracks.
Mark rode Bo, his mustang and I rode Calypso, we were getting ready for the parade to start when all of the old tractors started popping, cracking, and grinding into gear. Bo got a little excited so Calypso really got excited and did fast little crazy circles. I thought, Oh gees what have I gotten myself into. But as quick as he got excited, he calmed down. The rest of the parade was a breeze. We walked across the rail road tracks while others had to get off and walk their horse. Calypso acted as if he had done parades his whole life. He walked calm and proud down main street of the little Colorado Country town. Mark was explaining to the crowd how wonderful the mustangs are and we would circle around so everyone could see the freeze marks. It did not matter what I asked Calypso to do, he was already two steps ahead of me. I just know he can read my mind.
I am so happy that I was able to keep Calypso, he definitely has my heart!

Shine's first clinic- June 26th
Today Shine had her first official working clinic!
I taught a trail/horsemanship clinic and she was my mount for the entire day.
It was her first time to be around that many horses and I was very pleased with how well she handled herself since she was so protective and ready to challenge other horses in the beginning.
She is really becoming quite the social gal nowdays!
It was also great to watch how much she seemed to be enjoying herself in the role of demo horse for my students.
I've attached a few photos of she and I warming up before the clinic.
She got lots of compliments on her wonderful carriage and how nicely she's coming along under saddle.
I'm very proud of this little mustang!
